This pub forms part of a fascinating
small hamlet sitting at the edge of, but clearly within, toxteth. A
building, Wood Croft is present on the site on the Earl of Sefton 1765
map and it is a hotel on the 1850 OS map, when Bagot Street (RH edge of shot)
is the main road through from what is now Picton Road. Nearby was another
croft Well Croft and the course of a small, un-named stream is being charted
as well as older buildings which pre-dated the Victorian devlopment of this
entire area.
In 1881 this property is No 25, Septimus Wilkinson
manager, in 1894 and 1911 Septimus Wilkinson is manager again but the pub
is now No 279. In 1938 it is Samuel Henry Geddes.
