Shown in 1992

This pub is at Nș 120 Park Road in both the 1911 and 1938 Gores directory. It is not shown as a public house on the 1908 map.

In 1911 the publican is Thomas Burke, the father of Michael Burke. Michael later married my great aunt, Mary Williams from 128 Park Road. My father, born 4 doors away, recalls flooding this pub, by turning the (upstairs) bath taps on full with the plug in.

John Burns tells me that it was known as 'Maggie Backfords' in the 1950/60s and from the 1960s until demolition "Wilkies". Isaac Ball confirms the nickname of 'Wilkies', in commemoratioon of an earlier manager (1950s or earlier ) 'they had some form of music license in the 50s/60s - played C&W and some R&R on a gramophone - Happy days (and nights)'

The Crown was demolished in the late 1990s.
