The spelling is correct for the pub if not for the town.

In 1858 the even numbered side of Wellington Road appears to to have been developed and only a handful of houses existed, by 1860 however a beer house is at number 94, this being the junction with Francis Street (the old name for Bembridge Street). By 1881 the pub is named
