The 19th century closed with the gift of Wavertree Playground (`The Mystery' ) to the people of LIverpool by an anonymous benefactor, in 1895.

A small portion of this park, at the Smithdown Road entrance, is inside the boundaries of Toxteth. A boundary stone existed within the park for many years.
