Standing at the junction of St Michaels Road with St Michaels Church Road. (This view of Carfax is taken from St Michaels Road, the address is actually in St Michaels Church Road. This was originally called 'The Nunnery' but has had its name changed since Cragg's time 'Carfax' is said to be a corruption of 'Carrefour' french for 'crossroads'. The style clearly marks thisout as one of Cragg's houses and I gather that the internal fittings of cast iron have much in common with those of the church andother houses. Christopher Kerr of the St Michaels Hamlet Society lists door and window frames, fireplace and a cast iron spiral staircase, an exact replica of the one in the church tower.

The small structure (?a coach house) in the garden, here seen under renovation, is clearly visible on the 1905 map. The house seems to correspond more closely to its original state now than in 1984 when C. Kerr noted external pebbledash and altered windows on St Michaels Road side.
