The site of Mallon's ropery; a wide back-entry between Solway Street & Asbridge Street, tapering off towards Lodge Lane, here seen from the Alt Street end.

The paved walks were the original entries which ran along either side of the ropery; the left hand one ran straight back through to Alt Street between nos. 87 & 89, forming an unusual open-ended entry for access to the ropery, while the right hand one ran across to Asbridge Street.  The site extended up to 76 Solway Street & 91 Asbridge Street, from where an open-ended entry ran straight through to Lodge Lane.

Before Asbridge Street was laid out in the1890's, the site was occupied by a series of ropesheds which ran from Lodge Lane to Alt Street.  Mallon's ropery was last used to manufacture ships' rope fenders in the 1920's & 30's before closing down, and by the 1950's there was nothing remaining.
