1845

From a lithograph by Isaac Shaw and printed by C. J. Greenwood. This comes from a series entitled 'The Mansions of Lancashire'. This is labelled as 'West Dingle, Lancashire the seat of Joseph Brooks Yates Esqre F.A.S.'

The design is characteristic and fits well with one of two photographs obtained from the Liverpool reocrd office.

The Dingle itself is not the valley figured here - the depression is a second stream or an ancient path of the Dingle Stream which also emptied at Knotts Hole, visible in the distant view of the Mersey.

The later history of West Dingle remains to be determined. The Croppers gradually left Dingle and by 1911 West Dingle is shown as the " House of Providence Home for Destitute Women and Children (Sister Ethelbert superioress)".
