Old Toxteth Boundary Stones

1969
These show the boundary between Toxteth Park and Wavertree and were to be found in the Wavertree Playground (The Mystery) where they are marked on the 1905 OS maps.

They were adjacent to the train line, which is the railway sleeper fence behind.  Sadly it seems that these historic stones have gone.  There is a recent railway marker and a stone stump which may be connected.

The reason why the toxteth boundary diverges so much in this area is thought to be related to the path of the Upper Brook or the possible presence of an old settlement.
