This fabulous
photograph , shows most of the block between Northumberland Street
and Weller Street (left edge of shot) . Whitehead, newsagents is
184, Graves Hairdressers is number 186 and so on. The visible properties
all correspond to the 1966
entry in the directories
section. In 1955 and earlier the greengrocer at 188 was Timothy
Whites and Taylors,chemist, where my father, John Christian, trained
as a Pharmacist, sleeping at 186 whilst on fire-watch during the
Liverpool Blitz.
No yellow lines, no broken windows,
no litter, no satellite dishes on ther still-cobbled street.,
None
of these properties stand any more.
