June 2005 Wellington Road began at Grafton Street and the Herculaneum Bridge Pub (visible here left) and continued to Park Road. This shows the view towards the Mersey, the wall at the end is Grafton Street (running right to left) it this is now blocked off to through traffic. The two pillars set into the wall just in front of the car, mark the position of the Herculaneum bridge itself. The Gas holders on the right of the picture are probably those shown on the 1908 map. The old Sailors Chapel is now obliterated by the lower three houses on the right. The Herculaneum Chapel would have been just out-of-shot, right Lockhart Street would have been just out of view on the left hand side of the screen. Modern housing now surrounds this area. |
