This shows part of the site of the largely unknown Parliament
Street Railway station. Some of the surrounding sandstone wall is all that remains
to be easily seen. The lorry is more or less sitting in front of the site of
the Stanhope
Welsh Baptist Chapel, demolished about 1870 to make way for
the railway tunnel.
In the distance (right) is the tower of St.
James' Church, with Upper Stanhope
Street adjacent, rear is the Cathedral, sitting
just outside Toxteth, on the other side of Upper Parliament
Street.
Near left,
(out of shot) are two fine old houses,
whilst further left, Stanhope Street is closed off by the Mersey
Brewery (Cains).
