This is looking back towards Liverpool and the summit of the hill at Lodge Lane / Tunnel Road. On the left are the gates into Toxteth Cemetery. On the right is Alderson Road ( behind the white lorry), Salisbury Road (with the red hoarding). Salisbury Road is a wider, side-road of larger, villa-type houses and predates much of the Victorian development of this area. Next is Cranborne Road, then Webster Road and it is here that the Lower Brook (whose course is traced by Spofforth and Webster Roads) crossed Smithdown Road. It was later culverted and now flows beneath the cemetery in a drain. Although said to cross higher up, near Mulliner Street, old maps show that this is incorrect, (Mulliner Street is well up the hill, beyond the blue lorry in the distance.
