This view is from Princes Road, looking towards the
river. The Greek
Church is just visible left.
In the centre is the Rialto. Built 1927 (on the site of coaching stables) as a cinema with a separate dance hall. This photo shows it in the last stages of being built. It finished life as a burnt-out ruin.
A soul-less new building on the site pays homage to the design of the old.
To the right is Upper Parliament Street just visible
in the distance. To the left you can see Berkley
Street at the junction with Hampton Street. |
