This is Park Road looking towards the city centre. The first road junction on the right is Leonora Street and the pub on the far corner is 'The Dingle Hotel'. Based on the 1938 Gore, coming towards you, the shops are John Buckley, fruiterer; Frederick Hughes, pastrycook; Percy Vickers, pianoforte dealer (you can make out the name on the shop), the next two shops do not correspond to the directory but S. W. Prescott is a butcher in 1938, in a large double-fronted property that formed the corner of Peel Street which is immediately right of Prescotts. Modern housing now occupies all of the photograph. |
