A cul-de-sac of glorious, large Victorian Villas at the southern
end of Lodge Lane.
Grove Park is not on the map in 1860 when the area is open
fields with a few scattered ponds. However the 1861 census shows Grove
Park with a long list of inhabitants. A map dated 1863
(basically the 1860 map with a few extra streets drawn in) shows
it and assuming the 1860 map was
published early in the year, Grove Park must have been laid out and
built between mid/late 1860 and early 1861, it is rare to be able to
suggest such a small time window. Directories show a varied and interesting
range of inhabitants, not least the Very Reverend Frederick Dwelly, who lived
there for many many years, rising eventually to be Bishop of Liverpool.
