March 2005 This beautifully preserved short terrace remains
as it was shown on the OS map of 100 years ago. If you remove the street
furniture it could be 1905 not 2005!
The arch at the right of the picture is
the corner of the now-demolished Waterworks associated with the
public baths on Lodge Lane.
Grierson
Street and adjacent Maitland Street remained as open
brick fields until the late 1870's, apart from the Corporation horse tram
stables which backed on to the site of Grierson Street. The terraces
were then built onto land once part of the adjacent Corporation
waterworks and pumping station, to which it is aligned. It filled the gap between
this and the roperies around Windsor View, hence these two sets of terraces
are not aligned in parallel.
