13th January 1920
Gore Street was recorded as 3 yards wide and with 27
court houses "one of the worst in Liverpool" in the 1849
Cholera epidemic there were about 50 cases here in three weeks in
Gore Street.
Picton seemed to think better of the street
:- "The courts in Gore Street, dirty as they are, display some smartness in
architecture. The roofs of the midden- -steads are battlemented and the
fronts embellished with a variety of blind arcades. The houses
Rent from 2s to 3s. We found some small houses with not less than 14/15
people resident."
The comments are probably not about these houses (which are not accurately located
in Gore Street) as this photograph is many years later.
