This building at 93 Upper Essex Street (now destroyed) was a local bridewell, rather than a police station and the distinction between the two is made in the relevant trade directories fo the time. This is almost certainly where Michael Hayden served for some of his time within the police although this photograph is taken exactly 100 years after his death in nearby Gelling Street.
