This is set in the close packed terraces of the remaining part of Shorefields. It is clearly visible in the Lavrock Bank series of files dated 1904
and was present even before the housing was built. It is a ventilation shaft for the tunnel which carried the
Cheshire Lines Railway
from Harrington Dock, where the line went underground, through the Dingle Mount
and on to its exit at a cutting in the Dingle estates thence towards
St Michael's station.
