1920s

>This fascinating old shot is from the John Roles collection. It shows the corner house of a group of eight houses in Grafton Street called Park Terrace. This house is probably one of the last standing. The houses were built in the early 19th century, probably for the workers of the Mersey Forge.

This precise house is clearly identifiable in the 1859 Isaac painting made from a moored balloon.

The other building was a Protestant Hall, built about 1900. Later it was officially called St Paul's Toxteth District Orange Hall. It appears to have replaced an even earlier building.

All this area has been landscaped and is now a children's play area.
