This slightly 'offbeat' building  opened 20th Sept 1878 with 945 seats, and schools for 500 children attached. It was built in a mixed Gothic style from various colours of brick, offset by small amounts of dressed stone on the tower and buttresses.  The spire was demolished between 1948 and 1952.

The church is now shared by the Methodist congregation and the Baptist church.

The tiny cobbled street to the side is Ellis Place which leads through to Park Road by the former High Park Inn (now Charletts Funeral Parlour).
