To
give this church its full name it is the Roman Catholic Church of
St Hugh of Lincoln. It opened in 1904 and replaced an earlier, temporary
iron church which opened in 1898 on this site, at the end of Cranborne
Road (just visible in the background, right), which is where the
church entrance is sited. The church was funded by William
Nelson, a local magistrate, in memory of his brother, Hugh.
The
church occupies a large site including gardens and administrative
buildings.
