The foundation stone of St Clements church, was laid on May 7th 1840 and the building consecrated in June 1841. It later spawned St Nathaniel on Upper Parliament Street.

It is a simple red sandstone church with a beautiful interior and was still standing in 2003, although surrounded by modern housing or demolition.

The school shown next door on the early map, is still running as an educational centre.
