St Bedes - Hartington Road / Fern Grove
toxteth.net > places > churches > st bedes

The original St Bedes on this site  was opened for worship in 1886.  It was designed by J Cutts and A McMurdo.

That church was largely destroyed by fire in 1919 and a new church designed by R Stubbs opened in 1924.  This intricate brick and stone Gothic church dominates this section of Hartington Road at the junction with Fern Grove and Arundel Avenue.  Note the square bell tower in front of the main body of the church, roofed by green slate.
