November 2004
Sited at the end of Geraint Street.
This opened in 1872 as the Welsh Baptist Chapel, with 350 seats.
Gore's Directory for 1871, has a 'Christ Church, Windsor
Street opened by licence 23rd Dec 1868. Minister : Rev R L Yonge' so the
date may be earlier than I have given, if, as seems likely, this
is the same church..
Gore
from 1881 to 1911 shows this building as a 'Christian Chapel' but
it is not included within the 1926 directory.
The Welsh congregation
is known to have moved from here to Earlsfield Road
Welsh Baptist Chapel in the early 20th Century. By 1934
Gore shows the Windsor Street building as 'The Church of Christ'
and this holds to 1946, perhaps beyond, but the 1954 OS map shows the building as "Electro Plating Works",
(as in Gore for 1955) and it was still the same in 1966 but
it was Tru-Form Joinery by 1993.
