1847 28th December, William Aspinall is born to Henry Aspinall, a Cabinet Maker and Elizabeth Aspinall ( formerly Hughes) at Nash Grove, St Martins, Liverpool (close to subsequent residences of the family). The birth was not registered until 31 January 1848 and so appears in the March quarter for 1848 and not 1847. The birth is almost certainly correct - the date fits subsequent data, father is Henry Aspinall, Henry is a cabinet maker, wife is Elizabeth and the area is correct. Assuming correctness, Elizabeth's maiden name is therefore taken to be Hughes.

1851 Census (HO 107/2185) shows the family at Number 2 Court, Mansfield Street which is off St. Anne Street. . The census shows
Henry Aspinall, head, marr, aged 40, Cabinet Maker, b. Liverpool.
Elizabeth Aspinall, wife, 41, b. Chirk, Shropshire (now part of Wrexham C.B.).
Jane, daughter, unmarr, 13, scholar, b. Liverpool
Henry, son, 8, b. Liverpool
Ann, daughter,6, b. Liverpool
Wm, son,3, b. Liverpool

1861 The family group are now at 7 Walkers Buildings, (Parish is St Anne's, RG 9/ 2694, the exact place is unknown, the area is Christian St and St. Anne's St,  Walkers Buildings are Islington, district 25) in the census. Henry is head, marr. aged 50, Cabinet Maker born Liverpool.  With him is an
Elizabeth, but she is shown as sister, unmarried, aged 24, (b. 1857) seamstress, b. Liverpool.
Shown as children are
Henry, son, unmarr, 18,  Cabinet Maker, b Liverpool;
Ann, daughter, unmarr, 16, b. Liverpool;
William, son, 13, Scholar, b. Liverpool,
Margaret, daughter, 2, b. Liverpool.  Margaret is a new name in this census and born considerably later than the other children. Her birth is being looked at presently.
There is no sign of Elizabeth Aspinall - Henry's wife (b. 1811, Chirk) it looks as if Elizabeth may have died (she is not found in the census) and Henry's unmarried sister is perhaps acting as female head-of-house. The birth certificate of this Elizabeth (should be within statutory records) may give clues as to Henry's (1811) parents' names.

1871 census. William's parents Henry (1811) and Elizabeth have vanished and are assumed to have died. Jane is now Jane Edwards and she has moved to toxteth - 5 Prince William Street, Toxteth Park. Robert is 28 a joiner; Jane 29, no occupation. With them are their children Hugh Edwards(10) Robert Edwards(12), John Edwards(4), Elizabeth Edwards(1). Also with them is Jane's brother, William Aspinall, (18, Dock Labourer) a brother-in-law to Robert (1840), the head of the house.

William Aspinall has not yet been looked at, after this date.
