1806 (approx) Robert was born
about 1806 in Liverpool, based on 1851 census. The IGI shows a likely
son (also Robert Edwards) christened 10/05/1840 in Runcorn, whose parents are Robert & Ellen Edwards.
This is not a proven link but the date, place and names all fit
and all of the couple's known children were born in Runcorn. Several
other births around this time are certainly not my relative,
however a
birth certificate obtained, which fits is for a birth in Runcorn
(no more address details given) on 18th March 1840, 5.30 a.m. for
Robert Edwards, son of Robert Edwards and Ellen Edwards formerly
Roberts. This is consistent with the IGI christening.
The birth was registered on 25th March 1840. Robert the father
is a shoemaker. The formerly unreadable occupation for this Robert
(1806),
on the marriage certificate of Robert (1840), could, just, be
'Shoemaker'.
This family fits everything
so far known. The name for the son aged 7 which was thought to be
John, is clearly not just John, but is Jonadab*. (Note
that there are two further families of Edwards's
living virtually next door to Robert). The eldest son, Hugh,
is not with the family and would be about 15 and is perhaps working
elsewhere. There is a Hugh Edwards working as an apprentice bricklayer
in Liverpool, what draws the eye is that he is in the
household of Hugh and Alice Roberts, both aged 68. |

*Jonadab is a religious name and is said to occur twice in the bible. The son of Rechab and founder of the Rechabites (q.v.), 2 Kings 10:15; Jer. 35:6, 10. Also the son of Shimeah, David's brother (2 Sam. 13:3). He was "a very subtle man." ( a very shrewd man). In the Book of Jeremiah, Jonadab is the name given to Jehonadab. It is also a religious term used by Jehovah's Witnesses. Jonadab is one of the great crowd who may gain paradise but will not be one of the 144,000 to rule. (sic)
