1813 Sees the marriage of Peter Williams to Elizabeth Roberts in Llangerniew (old spelling of Llangernyw) Denbighshire.  The marriage took place on Christmas Day. Elizabeth is recorded as being 'of this parish' , a spinster and signed with her 'X' mark.  Peter on the other hand was able to sign his name, a batchelor and is recorded as being from the parish of Llanfair Talhaern. Witnesses were David Edwards and Thomas Evans. Marriages have been checked back from 1840 to 1837 on statutory records and Parish records back from 1837. The 1813 marriage is the only one which fits on both names, and is in the correct locality.

1840 is the next snippet of information: when Peter Williams and Elizabeth Roberts of Pentre 'y Wern, Llangerniew, registered the birth of their son Jabez Williams. Peter is a Farmer, which is consistent with the information on the certificate when Jabez himself marries in Liverpool in 1869.  It may be worth noting that no further births to this couple have been traced between 1837 and 1842. (not looked further yet). Assuming an age of 20 on marriage, in 1813, this would place their births around 1795 and thus their ages at Jabez's birth at about 45. It is thought unlikely that there would be further children, however earlier siblings to Jabez may come to light if the 1841 census entry for Pentre y Wern can be found. So far no matching entries are found however Peter and Elizabeth would have with them Jabez aged 1 year or less..
