1871 census the family are at 5 Prince William Street, Toxteth Park.  Parents Robert 28 & Jane 29, with them is son Hugh (10) a scholar, Robert Edwards(12), John Edwards(4), Elizabeth Edwards(1).

1878 Alice is born at 7 Wolfe Street and John is assumed to be with the family. He would be about 11.

1881 census family are at 123 Wolfe Street. Robert aged 41, & Jane 41, Robert (1860) who would be 22, is missing. Hugh Edwards (20) is still living with his parents, John Edwards (14), Elizabeth Edwards(11), Ann Edwards(9), Ellen Edwards(7), William Edwards(5), Alice Edwards(2).

1891 John is not with Robert. John married in 1891 Toxteth Park, St. John The Baptist, Liverpool reference : 2108TP/10/94 to Ann Jane McCullock. The couple appear to be at 85 Northumberland Street for the census - John Edwards aged 25, Dock Labourer born Liverpool married to Ann Jane Edwards aged 22, born Liverpool. No others who fit as well have been traced.

In this house is William Edwards, single, aged 18 a brother-in-law to the head of house John Hunt (23) Dock labourer- John's wife is Elizabeth (22) born Liverpool. John Edwards has siblings  Elizabeth and William of these ages, and they are missing from the household of father Robert.  A marriage of Elizabeth Edwards to John Hunt is found in 1890, at St Matthew, Toxteth Park, Lancs reg,office reference 2117TP/2/296

1905 The marriage of John Edwards and Ann Jane McCulloch produced five children and on 16th June 1905 Richard Edwards was born to the couple at 22 Yates Street, Toxteth Park.  The birth was registered on 19th July by Ann who was unable to sign her name.  John is shown as a Dock Labourer on the birth certificate.  It is known that Richard was the youngest of the five children from this marriage the other children being John, Ellen, Sally and Herbert.

1921 John was living at 125 Park Street when Ann Jane (McCulloch) died, in February, aged 51. This is also the address given when John purchased a family plot at Allerton Cemetery. John gives his occupation as a dock labourer.

1946 John died aged 79 and was buried January 18th at Allerton Cemetery in the family plot which he purchased in 1921.
