1840 Jabez was born on 28th August 1840 to parents Peter Williams and Elizabeth Williams (nee Roberts). (Llanrwst XXVII 167). His birth was registered (as Jabes) on 26th September by Elizabeth, who could not write her own name. ("x mark of"). Although registered in Llanrwst sub-district, the birth certificate twice states what appears to be Pentre 'y Wern as an address and the parish is Llangernyw (using the older spelling of Llangerniew). Pentre Wern, (without the 'y), is to the east and south of the village, on the banks fo the river. The parish of Llangernyw is documented by Genuki within Llanrwst but situated towards Llanfair Talhaiarn, where Peter appears to have lived and prior to the probable marriage of his parents in 1813.  Several possible sibling births are located on the IGI to parents of these names all within a small area encompassing the above townships and Bettys yn Rhos and Llansannan (and none elsewhere), two births, of Leah and Samuel, especially deserve investigation in the light of the subsequent names of Jabez's children.

1861 Jabez is found in Liverpool at 9 Longville Street, Toxteth Park. He is aged 20, unmarried, born 'Wales' and a labourer in the Gas Company. Assuming this is the correct Jabez Williams, he is with his brother, head-of-house, Samuel, aged 40, born Wales, labourer in Gas Company. Samuel is married to Ellen, 40 b. Wales. Their children are John Peter, 13, Office boy, b. Liverpool; Eleanor, 12, Scholar, b. Liverpool;  Samuel, 9, Scholar, b. Liverpool;  Ann,6, b. Liverpool.  As the eldest child here is 13 and born Liverpool, a marriage of Samuel may perhaps be looked for around 1846, possibly in Liverpool. This would confirm Samuel's father and in turn could confirm the identity of this Jabez.

1869 Jabez Williams marries Jane Roberts in Liverpool (ref. March qtr West Derby 8b 482).  The marriage was at the Church of St Peter, Everton, Walton on the Hill. Jabez claims 27, a Batchelor, Marine Stoker of 39 China Street.  His father is given as Peter Williams, a farmer.  China Street is in Everton, two streets south from the church of St Peter. Jane is aged 26 a spinster of 103 Anthony Street, her father is Robert Roberts a Book-keeper. Anthony Street is two streets north of the church. The marriage was by license. Both parties signed their own names, the witnesses were Thomas and Sarah Sims.

1870 Jabez is shown as a 'fireman' on Samuel Jabez's birth certificate, this was presumed to relate to Engine Driving, but he may still be a marine stoker as in the previous year. The address is given as 193 Beaufort Street.  The 1860 Gore puts this (as 193 Bedford St [before the name was changed]) about half way between Warwick Street and Northumberland Street.. Perhaps(?) significant at 196 is John Williams, Joiner.

1871 census shows Jabez as a Stoker in Steam Vessel, born Wales and aged 30 living at 5 Court 4 House, Frank Street, St Cleopas, Toxteth.

1872 he is shown as a Stoker when Leah is born at  9 Williams Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. 9th September 1872.

1881 Jabez, now aged 40 is an Engine Driver in the census living at 2 Rectory Street in Toxteth. He now gives his birthplace as Liverpool although this is clearly the same person based on the family with him.

1891 Jabez is not with the family and Jane, living with Elizabeth and Leah at 30 Malta Street, Toxteth, is shown as a widow, placing his death between April 1881 and April 1891

1894 is shown as Engine driver (deceased) on Samuels wedding certificate

The following death from Liverpool Journal, Jan 14th, 1882 is not the above Jabez, but could it be related ? to his father perhaps ? also worth eliminating this one when ordering death certificate for mine!
"WILLIAMS, Jan 9th 1882, sons residence, 5* Fernhill St, Jabez, aged 81" (* is an unreadable digit).
In the 1881 census there are Williams families at both 55 and 58 Fernhill St. plus one at number 18.  The above death is assumed to be 55 or 58, however the is no Jabez there in 1881 census. There are only 4 Jabez Williams in 1881 census, mine is one, but one of the right age (79) for the above death is at 33 Leadenhall St, Everton, lodger, shoemaker, widower, born Llanrwst - as is the head of the house Hugh Williams at 58 Fernhill Street. This same Jabez is at 45 Abbey Street in Everton in 1871, a shoemaker, aged 69 born Llanwrst. He is a widower and living alone. No clues!
