1811 census data so
far agrees on 1811 for his birth in Liverpool.
1838 (approx) a
daughter, Jane, was born to Henry Aspinall and Elizabeth. Perhaps this corresponds to the christening 8 Jan 1838,
St Peter, Liverpool. Father- Henry Aspinall, Mother - Elizabeth. From this a
possible marriage around 1836, perhaps in Liverpool, could be surmised.
1847 a
son, William is born to Henry Aspinall, (Cabinet Maker) and Elizabeth Aspinall (
formerly Hughes) at Nash Grove, St Martins, Liverpool. 28th December 1847.
1851 Census (HO
107/2185) shows the family at Number 2 Court,
Mansfield Street which is off St. Anne Street (off Islington). The family shows
Henry
Aspinall, head, marr, aged 40, Cabinet Maker, b. Liverpool.
Elizabeth Aspinall,
wife, 41, b. Chirk, Shropshire (now part of Wrexham).
Jane, daughter, unmarr,
13, scholar, b. Liverpool
Henry, son, 8, b. Liverpool
Ann, daughter,6,
b. Liverpool
Wm, son,3, b. Liverpool (William occurs again in 1871 census
living with the now married Jane)
1861
The family are at 7 Walkers Buildings, (Parish is St Anne's, RG 9/ 2694,
the area is Christian St and St. Anne's St, Walkers
Buildings are Islington,
district 25) in the
census.
Henry is head, marr. aged 50, Cabinet Maker born Liverpool. With
him is
Elizabeth, but she is shown as sister, unmarried, aged 24, (b.
1857) seamstress,
b. Liverpool. {The birth certificate of this Elizabeth (should
be in statutory records) may
give clues as to Henry's parents' names.}
Shown as children are
Henry, son, unmarr, 18, Cabinet Maker,
b Liverpool;
Ann, daughter, unmarr, 16, b. Liverpool;
William, son, 13, Scholar,
b. Liverpool,
Margaret, daughter, 2, b. Liverpool. Margaret is a new name
in this census and born considerably later than the other children. Her birth
is being looked at presently. It is not Margaret Aspinall,
Ormskirk, June 1859 8b, 565 however
There
is no sign, in 1861, of Elizabeth Aspinall - Henry's wife (b. 1811, Chirk). Although
he still gives 'married' it looks as
if Elizabeth may have died (she is not found in the census) and Henry's unmarried
sister is
perhaps acting as female head-of-house.
no
more was known of Henry (1811) after this, of 35 Henry Aspinalls in the 1871
census in Liverpool, none correspond. It may be worth noting
however that in 1871, his son, William Aspinall, is living with his sister Jane and her
husband Robert Edwards. Henry's (1811) death between 1861 and 1871 is possible.
1867
Henry's death is now confirmed. He died in
the Brownlow Hill workhouse (these acted in part as rudimentary hospitals) on
31st May 1867, of Bronchitis. He was a Cabinet Maker and aged 57 on death which
is in agreement with census data. The informant is Jane
Edwards (i.e. Jane nee Aspinall), his daughter, who gives an address of
8 Comus Street. This is close to the known area where the family lived. It is
not certain if this is Henry's address before his death, or Jane's address as
informant (if the two are different). The fact that his daugher is the informant
may support the suggestion (above) that his wife, Elizabeth, was already
dead by this time.
