1843 census data thus
far agrees on 1843, b. in Liverpool.. Births have been searched from July 1842
to Dec 1844. only 3 possibilities emerge:-
Aspinall, Henry,
Wirral, XIX 337 (badly written - could just be 357), Sep 1844 Aspinall
Henry, Ashton &C (?) XX 91 June 1843 Aspinall, Henry,Dewsbury,
XXII, 10, March 1843
The Ashton birth seems most likely but
has not been followed up as yet.
1851 Census (HO
107/2185) shows the Aspinall family at Number 2 Court,
Mansfield Street which is off St. Anne Street (off Islington). The family shows Henry
Aspinall, head, marr, aged 40, Cabinet Maker, b. Liverpool. Elizabeth Aspinall,
wife, 41, b. Chirk, Shropshire (now part of Wrexham CB). Jane
Aspinall, daughter, unmarr,
13, scholar, b. Liverpool Henry, son, 8, b. Liverpool Ann, daughter,6,
b. Liverpool Wm, son,3, b. Liverpool (William occurs again in 1871 census
with the now married Jane)
1861
The Aspinalls are at 7 Walkers Buildings, (Parish is St Anne's, RG 9/ 2694,
the exact place is unknown, the area is Christian St and St. Anne's St, Islington,
district 25). The name .buildings, used as an
address like this usually refers to a short court or alley. In the
census. Henry (1811) is head, marr. aged 50, Cabinet Maker born Liverpool. With
him is an Elizabeth, but she is shown as sister, unmarried, aged 24, (b.
1857) seamstress,
b. Liverpool. Shown as children to Henry are Henry, son, unmarr, 18, Cabinet Maker,
b Liverpool; (in accord with 1851 census) Ann, daughter, unmarr, 16, b. Liverpool; William, son, 13, Scholar,
b. Liverpool, Margaret, daughter, 2, b. Liverpool. (Margaret is a new name
in this census and born considerably later than the other children).
Jane
has already married by 1861 and has left home, she is living close by There
is no sign of Elizabeth Aspinall - Henry's mother (b. 1811, Chirk) it looks as
if Elizabeth has died (she is not found in the census) and Henry's (1843) aunt
(Henry's (1811) sister) is
acting as female head-of-house.
1871 only one Henry Aspinall in the Liverpoool
census would fit my relative, he is at 9 Naylor street, age is virtually correct,
wood turner, unmarried, lodger, no clues.
no
more is known of Henry (1834) after this. There are 35 Henry Aspinalls in the 1871
census in Liverpool. None appear to correspond to Henry (1811) - who is assumed to have
died. Elizabeth (his wife) is also assumed to have died. Henry 1834 is not yet
found for certain, although the above person is assumed.
