Gerard was born in Liverpool in 1913. Because of the lack of subsequent census data, little is known of his early life. He appears as the informant on the death certificate of John Edward Christian on 31/01/1938 at 29 Isaac Street. It is reasonable to suppose that he was living with his parents before that. Gerard left Liverpool after the death of his parents and moved to Leeds where he married Violet Kitchen in 1939. He subsequently lost touch with many of the family, again probably due to the religious bigotries which seemed to riddle the Catholic side of the family. Gerard died from Asbestosis in Leeds in 1977, Leeds vol 5 pg 0162, leaving three adult children, David Gerard having died in July 1947 in a drowning accident. In 2002 the two sides found each other, met up and continue to be in touch, thanks to the Internet. |
