1841 Charles was born about 1841 in Tyrone County, Ireland (data 1881 census). His precise date of birth is uncertain as census data is not consistent, the 1891 being especially divergent. It may be that he lied about his age for marriage or retirement reasons but his date of birth varies from 1831 to 1841 depending on which census is correct, if any.
It has so far not been possible to trace the marriage of Charles and Catherine, this work continues. Only one marriage of Charles McCullough or close spelling has been found in England or Wales from Jan 1857-Dec 1866, this is Clifton 6a 253 Dec 1865 but this reference does not match anyone called Sheriden and is a year after the birth of Sarah. Catherine Sheridan/Sheriden has given several matches Jan 1860-Dec 1864, currently being matched.
1866 Charles is first reliably found for the birth of his daughter Mary at 2 Combermere Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. General Labourer.
1870 He is at 23 Mann Street on 5th December for the birth of son Charles, occupation now given as Dock Laborer. (spellings on this certificate are all suspect!).

1875 2 Court, Cooper Street, Toxteth Park Liverpool 15/03/1875 birth of Patrick. Dock labourer. This is close to all previous addresses.
1881 census 72 Henderson Street, Toxteth, Dock Labourer, born Tyrone County, Ireland, the first useful indication of his birth origins.
1885 and 1889, for the first and second marriages of his daughter Mary, he is shown as a labourer.
1891 census finds him at 27 Wolfe Street, again a Dock labourer for both the census and for Hughs's birth as Mary is living with the family when Hugh is born.
1901 Charles is not found but he is not the death recorded for a Charles McCulloch in September 1891 Liverpool 8b, 21. Another possibility is Charles McCullock March 1903, Toxteth Park 8b 143.
