1848 Birth, 18th April at 107 Cheapside, (Deritend & Bordesley), Aston, Birmingham. 1851 The Warwickshire census survives. There are only two records in the 1851 census where a William Taylor is head of house with a wife called Elizabeth and a son William. The first is a waggoner and has a son William aged 10. The second, mine, the son is actually William H Taylor as he should be, and he is 9 as he should be. Also William (father) is a Cabinet Maker, as he should be from the marriage certificate (both his own and eventually of WHT). Note that he is a master Cabinet maker, employing 4 men and one boy. Their address is 141 Moseley Street, Birmingham. This is immediately adjacent to, and parallel with, Cheapside. 1881 The census gives only two Charles Taylors born 1848 +/- 1 year. One is a Tinner, born Aston, Warwick, living in Aston at 17 Court, 13 House, Park Lane, Aston, with wife Mary A (b. Wolverhampton, children Charles 9 b. Wolverhampton, Elizabeth 6, b Aston. Children's names are both appropriate to father and grandparents. This couple seems the most likely of the two candidates ( nb others are all wrong on birthplace except people at Beach Street, 3 C 12, this Charles is an axle turner, living with them is Jane Brookes, mother in law, who might help to trace marriage). no further pursuit of Charles has been made |
