1828 (approx) The birth of Catherine is almost certainly pre-records. Based on census data, she was born between
1828 and 1830 in Harrington,Cumberland.
1841
census, the family are now traced (indexed as McGray) to Hollins
or Hollings, High Harrington, Cumberland. District 10 which
comproses 'all that part of the parish of Harrington called
the village of Higher Harrington together with the two houses
called the Scaw'. HO 107/156/18. The exact location is not
found, the entry is after 'Grayton Green' (?) but before
the entry for 'Wiggington' (?) and what looks like 'Sticky Hil'l.
Next entry is then 'Rectory'.
1841 James McGravy,
blacksmith
45, (b. 1796) Ireland Elizabeth McGravy, 45, (b. 1796) Cumberland Catherine McGravy, 14 (b. 1827) Cumberland. Sarah McGravy, 14 (b. 1827) Cumberland. Peter

1850
Liverpool Jun 1850, Vol 20, 207 Catherine McGrievy married Robert Tyson
at the Parish Church (St. Peter's, Church Street is assumed). Both
bride and groom give their age only as 'full', both give their address as 'Blundell Street' (maps
0a and 0b)
which is close to where Catherine's family were living. Robert is
a shipwright, his father is Matthew Tyson, a labourer.
Catherine's father is James McGrievy, a shipwright. Witnesses are
James McGrievey and Mary Farrell (her mark). The marriage was by
License meaning that further details, such as ages, may be
available from the allegation. It is not known where this might
be held however.
1851 The family are
at 30 Hill Street, Toxteth Park in the census
for that year.

JOHN McGreevey. 'John' is a Ship Smith, journeyman, b. Ireland, Killaleagh, (Killyleagh)
married and aged 57 (b. 1794). (it seems certain that 'John' is an error
and should be James. Wife and children are all exactly
correct for James. Both married daughters, living in
this household, say 'James'
for their father and all subsequent occurrences are of
James). Elizabeth, wife, 56, b. Cumberland,
Workington. James, son, unmarried, 17, (b. 1834) blacksmith
apprentice, b. Harrington, Cumberland. Thomas, son, unmarried,15 (b. 1836), sailmaker, b. Harrington, Cumberland.
Catherine Tyson, daughter, married, 23 (b. 1828) b. Harrington, Cumberland. Henry Fitzgerald, 28, b. Ireland, Cork, Master Mariner, Son-in-law. Henry's
wife is Sarah Fitzgerald, shown as daughter-in-law to head of house John.
This is an
alteration
in the ennumerator's book and is not correct, she is daughter, Sarah
nee McGrevy*. Henry Fitzgerald
has also been altered, to son-in-law which is correct.

*Catherine's
sister Sarah herself married in 1847 and Catherine was a witness at the wedding under
her maiden name of McGrevy. Catherine married in Jun qtr 1850, Liverpool
20 207, to Robert Tyson also from Whitehaven. Thus by the 1851 census she is Catherine Tyson. Catherine's husband
(a mariner?) is absent for the 1851 census and for 1861.
1861
the census shows Catherine Tyson aged 32 (b. 1829) at 38 Norfolk Street. This
is two streets away from Jordan Street where her brother James McGrevy
lived before he married this same year, 1861. Catherine is head of house, married
rather than widowed. She is born
in Cumberland. No occupation given. Her husband is not present. Catherine's children are:-
Elizabeth, daughter, 8, b. Liverpool (b. 1853)
Thomas
Tyson, son, 5, b. Liverpool (b. 1855) (probable birth June 1855, Liverpool 8b
167) John Tyson, son, 2, b. Liverpool (b
1859) Catherine, daughter,
1 month, Liverpool (b. 1861) no occupation or heading such as scholar is
shown for any of the children. Also in the household is Thomas McGreivy (indexed
as McGrieog), Lodger, unmarried, 24, sail maker, b. Cumberland. This fits Catherine's brother, Thomas, on age (b. 1837 as he should be), occupation,
place of birth and the fact that he is still unmarried (he marries the following year).

From next
census in 1871 census
data, note the following in relation to 1861:- 1.
Elizabeth aged 8 (in 1861) is no longer with the family ten
years later in 1871. 2. Sarah Tyson aged 18 (in
1871) is missing in 1861 3. Mathew Tyson aged
19 (in 1871) is missing in 1861. Note however that a correctly
aged Mathew Tyson is found living with Sarah Jared
(nee McGrevy) at the Boy's Orphan
House (Catholic) on Everton Brow. Sarah is Matron and husband George
is Governor.

1871
Catherine (indexed as Catrina Tyson), at 13 Kew Street with her
family. Catherine, Robert and family are lodgers ('head' is crossed
out and 'lodger' overwritten) in the house of Richard Jones. For
the first time it is possible to see Catherine's husband's Christian
name
- Robert. Note also that he is born in Whitehaven also. Using Robert's
name the marriage is found with the badly written entry, mis-transcribed
as 'McGreiry'. There are numerous Tyson members in Whitehaven, often
living close to McGrevys.

Catherine is at 13 Kew Street
for the death of her father James in June of 1871. The death certificate
confirms her father is James and not John.
1880
Catherine Tyson, died on August 23rd 1880 in Liverpool (W. Derby, Sept 1880, 8b, 373 aged 50).
(b. 1830). She died at 160 Braemar Street, which is in Kirkdale
close to where the branch of the family were living. Cause of death
was chronic diarrhaea, 5 months and acute laryngitis. She is
shown as the wife of Robert Tyson, Ship Carpenter. The informant
was Sarah O'Brien, sister of 32 Foley Street, Kirkdale. These facts
all tie in to, or confirm, what has already been found about the
family.
The 1881 census shows no clearly identifiable Robert
Tyson. Only Mathew Tyson is reliably found and
in later years he is associated with a John Tyson, Thomas Tyson
and Sarah Tyson all in Blackburn to where they appear to have
moved.
