The view is from
Queen Square with the old St John's Market building stands right
whilst left is The Royal Ampitheatre
(not to be confused with the Theatre Royal on Williamson Square,
nearby). Just beyond the theatre can be seen a fraction of part
of one of the old fish markets (not to be confused with
one near James Street however).
The orientation of the picture
is confirmed by the distant tower of St Luke's
on Hardman Street.
Ironically this now bombed-out ruined church is the only building still standing
180 years after this picture was made.
