The list below shows the composition of the civil registration districts in London between 1st July 1837 and 31st March 1930. The same districts were used to compile the censuses returns for the years 1851, 1861,1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901. The County of London was created in 1889 from parts of Middlesex, Surrey and Kent.
