Toxteth.net is a non-commercial website, shared with those who have
an interest in the unique history of the Toxteth area of Liverpool.

I use Toxteth to mean the original boundaries of the Royal and Ancient Park of Toxteth, delimited in 1207 by King John.
The term has been much abused, it is not Liverpool 8 (which is just a postcode area, 1000+ years later than toxteth!)
the original boundary extended far wider - and most of the riots which made the area infamous,
were not in Toxteth but in adjacent Canning.

The idea to put data on the net developed from my interest in
finding out about my ancestors in the area in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. After that it just grew.

The site launched in October 2004
and there is still a great deal of material to be added, (and a limited time to do this)
but I hope it gives you a feel for the area in which your ancestors walked.

If you have any information, or especially pictures, which you are willing to share please get in touch.
The site will only expand further by pooling information.
